I am Sam; compassionate, driven and deathly afraid of bugs. I’m leaving my life in Boston, Massachusetts and headed to the Dominican Republic to become a Peace Corps volunteer. I graduated from Boston University in 2009 and serving in the Peace Corps has always been a dream of mine. I’ve worked at a small community bank for the past three years and am excited to start this new adventure as an economic development volunteer in the Peace Corps. This blog will document my achievements and failures, big moments and small strides. Hope you enjoy it and thanks for coming along for the ride!

It seems like yesterday, when you sat in the back of our car as we toured Zion’s Park in southern Utah. The car was hot and cramped, but you kept us happy with your infectious laugh and terrific attitude! You will bring that same love for life and people with you on this momentous journey! My sons served for two years as missionaries for our church. Tom served in Madagascar. Besides doing the religious piece, the missionaries also engaged in public service. Helping people learn about sanitation, teaching english and other subjects in schools, etc. They lived among the people in the same dwellings, ate what they ate. He developed such a love for the people.Madagascar was the third poorest nation on earth when he was there. You will grow in ways that you never dreamed of. Be safe. I will have you in my prayers.Roomie and your Dad are SO proud of you!!!!!!
    Love, Tommie 🙂

After reading your vivid descriptions, I can see a future successful author/ journalist.
Your collecting rain water, certainly reminded me, my childhood. My area in India has lowest rain fall, mostly desert tophograhically. Our houses roofs are designed and build in such a way that all the rain water collects in a tank. We use that water year long after going thru local purification technique. Our well are deep about 100 to 150 feet deep. It was tough.
You are doing a great job. Your this experience will be a tresure to you, a source of peace and contentment. Good luck.

Thanks for reading and for your support Dr. Ram. We have the similiar rain catching devices on our roofs so it collects in tank. The only bad thing is the dry seasons! We are completing a water project and should have water from an aqueduct system in two weeks! Hope all is well!
